“Courts” tennis net shirt graphic as part of a fundraiser to buy concrete for Courts Skatepark in Montclair, New Jersey. In partnership with Skate Essex, a local volunteer organization working to create safe skateboarding spaces and programs for youth in Northern New Jersey. We raised over $2500 and used the proceeds to build a new spine ramp.

Only a few years ago, local skaters sought refuge at the Rand Park tennis courts. The courts are seemingly the largest and flattest plot of smooth ground in town. After a year or two of convincing the town that the community needed a skatepark—and being chased off by territorial tennis players, one of the nets was taken down and skaters were granted use of a whole tennis court to build ramps on or bring whatever obstacles they deemed skateable. Fast forward past many rounds of fundraising, Courts Skatepark spans both tennis courts and is home to a build of Alexis Sablone’s skateable sculptures, as well multiple ongoing DIY concrete projects.

The shirt graphic was rendered from a photograph of netting sourced from a local construction site carefully torn and stretched to simulate a ripped tennis net.
